For Black-ish creator Kenya Barris, “diversity” has become a distraction from the show’s stellar cast and writing. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, during a panel at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Thursday, Barris did not take kindly to a reporter’s question about what percentage of the show’s audience is African-American. “I will be so happy when diversity is not a word,” Barris said. “I have the best job in the world and I am constantly having to talk about diversity.
