Many women around the world wished they had seen more role models on film and television when they were growing up, according to a ground-breaking study in nine countries including the U.S., the U.K., China and India. “The study shows media can be a very powerful influencer on our social and cultural beliefs and our behavior,” Madeline Di Nonno, CEO of the Geena Davis Institute, told me. “The findings have been similar across most of the countries. Media is the one business category that can inspire and change the world quickly. It could take decades for women to achieve gender parity on boards or in Congress, government and law.
