TV Actors Rarely Have Conditions They Portray, Report Finds

A new study by the Ruderman Family Foundation revealed that, despite those with disabilities representing nearly 20 percent of the country’s population, about 95 percent of characters with disabilities on television are played by able-bodied actors. Surveying hundreds of actors with visible and non-visible disabilities, they found that a plurality of actors with disabilities worked less than once a year and were repeatedly subjected to negative stigma and preconceived biases by casting agents and producers.
