Paper Bag Plan resonates because it comes from real families—disability, caregiving, love, and the everyday work of supporting independence. The film centers disabled talent and grows out of writer-director Anthony Lucero’s own family story. In a landscape where disability representation still lags, Paper Bag Plan shows what’s possible when the people closest to these stories are the ones telling them.
Our full Spotlight looks at how Lucero shaped the film, why authentic casting mattered, and what audiences have shared with us. The film is in select theaters now and will be streaming in January.
Anthony Lucero will join us at our December 3rd event for a conversation about what authentic disability storytelling really requires.
