She’s not invisible. Her story is.

Menopause is having a cultural reckoning — celebrities are naming it openly, legislators are paying attention, and women in their 40s and 50s are done whispering about what they’re going through.

Our recent research on menopause representation in Hollywood shows Hollywood is still catching up: of 225 top-grossing films with a 40-plus female lead over 16 years, only 6% mentioned menopause at all, and nearly every mention was a throwaway joke.

That gap matters more than it might seem — research shows the stories women see on screen shape how they experience this life stage, whether they seek care, and whether they stay in careers they’ve spent decades building.

The conversation is changing.

The audience is ready.

But one thing that has been missing is rigorous data — and the direct industry engagement to act on it.

At the Geena Davis Institute, we take our research straight to studios, networks, and streaming platforms and give them the tools to actually change what gets made.

A woman navigating this transition deserves to see her real story told.  Your gift today helps make sure she does!
