Jodie Foster: Why Hollywood Needs More Women Directors

Since Jodie began acting at the age of 3, she’s seen a lot of positive changes in the industry – but Hollywood needs to make even big steps toward equality, she says. “When I was growing up in the film business, I never saw a woman’s face,” Foster told the crowd while accepting the Laura Ziskin Lifetime Achievement Award at the Athena Film Festival on Thursday. “Sometimes it was the lady who played my mom. Or occasionally it would be a makeup artist. But most often it would really just be me and the script supervisor,” she continued. “And little by little, as time went on, a few female faces started coming onto crews.
