Amir Dossal is a well-known figure within NGO, aid and development circles for his roles at the UN, most famously as being instrumental in establishing the UN’s partnerships programme in the late 1990s to help make the most of a $1bn donation from philanthropist Ted Turner. He was also central to the launch of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in 2000 and played a major role in their replacement with a new set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These days, he is president and CEO of Global Partnerships Forum, a not-for-profit body that seeks “to address economic and social challenges through partnerships”.
