Females in leading film roles are dominating the box office

According to Motion Pictures Distributors Association of Australia figures female-driven movies comprise six of the 10 biggest blockbusters — and there are four more female-led movies in the top 20.
This year’s strong slate of releases prompted US National Association of Theatre Owners president John Fithian to declare 2015 the “year of women.” These blockbusters aren’t confined to traditional genres like rom-coms either, with strong women ‘kicking ass’ in action and adventure films including Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road and Shailene Woodley in The Divergent Series: Insurgent.
